Hmong Community Literacy Events in California
Community literacy events are partnerships with local organizations and public libraries to support Hmong language and literacy practices. Children’s book author, Pa N. Vue, reads her children’s books and gives away copies to families in the area. The goal is to give Hmong-speaking children and families children’s books written in their language.
Community Literacy
Sacramento, California - November 15, 2025
Pa developed this community literacy event in partnership with the Sacramento Public Library (Valley Hi-North Laguna Branch) to provide families in South Sacramento with exposure to Hmong language and literacy materials. Pa gave away 14 books to children ages 2 to 7. She also read two of her children’s books in combination with librarian-led Hmong/English bilingual songs and art activities (coloring, drawing a pet, making a book, making a hand puppet). This event included an author signing and Q/A session at the end for parents and children.
