Their research examines how queer and trans HMoob youth draw upon cultural practices to fostering healing, belonging, and liberation while resisting and contesting white-cis-hetero-patriarchal violence.

She is a social work scholar seeking to improve the mental health of older refugees and immigrants by examining the experiences of aging, oppression, and cultural practices of resistance and resilience.

She a dedicated educator, cultural advocate, and higher education leader whose career spans more than three decades in elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education.

She is a child of Hmong refugees and came to the U.S. when she was five years old. She is also an educator, poet, and author whose work centers Hmong language revalorization.

Her research interests revolve around valuing the unique linguistic features of a language and how culture affects its language repertoire. Her research focuses on the acquisition of a second language that is grounded in oral traditions versus literacy.

Her research interests include HMoob epistemologies, education policy, racial/ethnic student organizations, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education. Ly’s dissertation is a critical ethnography of a HMoob student organization and how they draw on HMoob epistemologies and ways of knowing to challenge institutional barriers.

As a motherscholar, community organizer, and educator, she leads various PAR projects that examines how minoritized communities educate youth about schooling, political participation, and belonging.

Her research examines race, ethnicity, gender, and education with the goal of creating asset-based changes to student experiences, educational practices and policies.

I’m always first a Hmong mother and a daughter. I am an Ancestral knowledge creator/practitioner and I exist in the ecology of my HMoob Vaaj Hmoob Leeg, Moos Pheeb Caub Fab ancestors.

Yia is a writer, public historian, and researcher examining post-conflict reconstruction, war memory, environmental justice, and the intergenerational afterlives of conflict.

Aline Lo is a scholar of American refugee literature and Critical Hmong American Studies. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor of English at Colorado College. She has published on textual and visual culture and her most recent work can be found in Amerasia, American Studies Journal as well as The Routledge Handbook of Refugee Narratives. She is currently working on a monograph about unrecoverable loss.

Nkaujoua Xiong is a Hmong multidisciplinary filmmaker, photographer, and artist based in the Midwest. At the root of her work is a desire to heal communities through shared artistic experiences, reconnect with her Hmong heritage, and carry forward a sense of legacy.

She is a first-generation scholar organizer whose personal vision and mission center uplifting and empowering others to pursue their greatest growth through a strong narrative framework and personal purpose. With a background in marketing and communications, she is currently pursuing her PhD at UC Merced in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies.

Her research interests center around the question of how immigration, race, gender, citizenship, and U.S. empire produce discourses of cultural and national belonging in 20th century U.S. history.
